GBSN is run almost entirely by volunteers. We are all busy mums and we donate our free time to run our charity that helped us so much when we had small babies. Whether you have a one-off hour to spare or a few hours a week there are so many things you could do to help us. Here’s some ideas.
You may be able to offer to host/hostess at a group. This entails running the kitchen, helping to set up and clear away, helping parents to sign in. We have had particularly good feedback from students who are interested in training as Health Professionals that this was a good experience for them. If you are interested in committing for a while, please email [email protected]
Train as a peer supporter – All of our Peer Supporters are trained at training days run by qualified specialist Breastfeeding Counsellors. If you are interested in training with us, please talk to the breastfeeding counsellor at your local group.
Get involved in the next fundraising event – GBSN run lots of events throughout the year to raise money. Many of them need volunteers to do all sorts of jobs from selling raffle tickets to stuffing goodie bags to baking cakes and manning stands. Keep an eye out on the website and Facebook page and email [email protected] if you can spare some time to help.
We also have lots of other volunteer positions to help the charity to run smoothly. These involve things like our IT, finances, legal affairs, liaising with local businesses and running our social media platforms. This can be a great way to build new skills or keep skills relevant during a career break. Some of our volunteers have gone on to set up their own business after gaining new skills with GBSN.
Organise your own fundraising event! – Lots of our supporters have organised events for us in the past including Boden sales, fun runs, cake sales, pamper nights and sponsored walks. If you have an idea then please get in touch ([email protected]).
Come to our events – Just turning up to an event we organise makes all the difference. If you can bring some friends too that’s even better. Check the website and Facebook page regularly to see what’s on.
